Summary
While very much a town of the 21st century, Cullompton, lying on the River Culm and conveniently situated close to the M5, has a long and distinguished history.
Its name almost certainly derives from St Columba, an Irish saint who preached in the area in the 6th century. Cullompton thus means Columba's town although there have been over 40 different spellings of Cullompton over the ensuing centuries.See the full content of this document
