Our regular columnist, Dean Jonathan Meyrick, is on holiday this week and his place is being taken by guest writer, Dr Mark Wynn, head of the University of Exeter's Department of Theology. The Dean's column returns next week OCTOBER is here again and across the country thousands of students will be returning to university or arriving at university, for the first time. The University of Exeter's Department of Theology and Religion at is about to welcome 35 new students into the BA in theology.

Our students come to the study of theology from a variety of backgrounds and for a variety of reasons. Some have a personal faith commitment. For religious believers, the subject matter of theology is obviously the most important subject of all -- it tells us about the sort of people we are called to be, and about our ultimate future.
