THE Army Benevolent Fund was founded in 1944 with King George VI as its first patron. The demobilisation of soldiers after the two world wars put an enormous strain on regimental and corps funds and highlighted the need for a national charity to give practical help to soldiers and veterans. In 2010 the charity rebranded and changed its name to ABF The Soldiers' Charity.

Today the conflicts may be different, but the pressures on our soldiers remain. As we are all too aware, the Army is bearing the strain of current conflicts.
