I AGREE that 'hero' is not a word that should be used for sportsmen, however great their achievements, but I do think F Harvey's letter Squandered lives of sports enthusiasts August 28, is ridiculous.

Yes, there are a few footballers and others who earn obscene amounts of money, get into fights or even fix games, but F Harvey is insulting thousands of men, women and children who enjoy sport.
