Somerset's chances of qualifying for the semi-finals of the Friends Provident Trophy came to a wet and dreary ending when persistent rain caused their home match against Kent to be abandoned without a ball being bowled.

To have any chance at all of reaching the latter stages the Cidermen needed to take all eight points from their remaining four matches, which even then would guarantee anything - but yesterday's result has now put paid to that.
