Unlike under the Tory party, the last thirteen years have been characterised by an almost uninterrupted period of prosperity and growth. The last two years have been much harder, of course, as the global recession has had a severe impact.

But Gordon Brown and Chancellor Darling have responded to events with far more competence than Cameron and Osborne have shown any sign of doing. The Tories have been proven consistently wrong on almost every aspect of the crisis.
