Regarding the letter from Bob Turner, History is littered with freak weather, Echo, August 6, I have a copy of The official story of the great floods of 1947 and their sequel, Harvest Home (HMSO 1948), from which I quote: "Centuries hence, when men speak of historic floods in England, they will talk of the great flood of 1947."
