REDUNDANCY payouts to staff from a doomed quango tasked with boosting the economy of Exeter and the wider region cost taxpayers nearly Pounds 1.8 million last year, new figures have revealed. It included two senior officials receiving "golden goodbyes" of up to almost Pounds 150,000 as the South West Regional Development Agency, which has its headquarters at Dix's Field in Exeter, is wound down.
The Tory-led coalition government announced last year that RDAs were to be scrapped, arguing they were a waste of money. They are being replaced by smaller economic task forces called Local Enterprise Partnerships. The RDA's annual report for 2010/11 reveals a total of 73 members of staff received 'exit' packages during the year totalling Pounds 1,770,000.See the full content of this document
