Regarding the criticism of the police over the unfortunate drowning at Exeter Quay, Witnesses say police too slow as man drowns, Echo, May 14, my wife and I were visiting at the time and saw that there was an immediate reaction by two constables on the scene and shortly afterwards a host of police, fire engines and ambulances turned up.

Half-an-hour later, as we walked back up the hill to the centre of Exeter, fire tenders and police cars were still arriving, blocking all entrances to the quay.
