DEVON and Cornwall Police have performed a U-turn on plans to "ring fence" the jobs of female officers at the expense of their male colleagues.
Officers' jobs have been under the microscope as the force prepares to make cuts of almost Pounds 50 million. In the force's surveillance team, senior management looked at protecting the female officers, over men, in cutting the unit from 34 to 20. The Devon and Cornwall branch of the Police Federation said managers had later backed down from using the Equality Act to prevent seven female officers from facing a selection process.See the full content of this document
