I AM disappointed but hardly surprised that the proposed new swimming pool is one of the first projects to be axed to make savings (New pool for city is ruled out, Echo, September 20).

There has never seemed to be the sustained political interest in providing good-quality swimming facilities for the people of Exeter, despite swimmers from our club raising the profile of the city at both national and international competitions.
