THIS delightful watercolour is of a day-flying moth which is a familiar sight in the Exeter and Torbay area during July and August, but elsewhere in this country was virtually unknown. The Jersey tiger moth, or Euplagia quadripunctaria as it is now scientifically named, is usually reported as having become an established resident of Devon around 1880.
The image comes from an album of watercolour illustrations, the majority by William Buckler and intended for publication in the Entomologists Monthly Magazine, published from 1864 to the present.See the full content of this document
