I WAS saddened to read in your column recently of the death of Jack Harrison. Others will want to pay tribute to his work with Exeter Rugby Club, the Army, etc. I write as a former colleague of his who had the good fortune to work with him for some 14 years at Hele's School in the 1960s and '70s.
Jack changed the lives of hundreds of schoolboys for the better in his role as First XV rugby coach. Standing with him on the touchline at schools all over Devon and beyond I was always impressed by the model he offered of sportsmanship and fair play. Pupils he taught 40 years ago have spoken to me of their sorrow at his passing.See the full content of this document
