VITAL flood defence schemes will be threatened unless government funding cutbacks are reversed, a spending watchdog has warned.
The National Audit Office found that Devon and other local authorities would be "hard-pressed to plug any funding gap", while at the same time being handed new responsibilities for tackling flooding. And it said plans for more cash to be raised locally for projects threatens to create a twotier system, where some schemes do not go ahead despite bringing greater benefits than others which do get the greenlight.See the full content of this document
