Doctors Condemn Watchdog Verdict On Eyesight Drug

The opportunity to appeal against planned restrictions on a sight- saving drug ends today, as senior doctors condemn the decision of a Government watchdog.

A draft report by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (Nice) - the body that decides which treatments to make available on the NHS - says the new drug Lucentis should be used on only 20 per cent of patients who could benefit from it - and only when they're virtually blind in one eye.
