Dutch Designs Are All Unique ; a New City Centre Shop Selling Unique One-Off Designs has Just Opened. Cyan Turan Went to Find Out More

Summary

FASHIONISTAS are in for a treat this Christmas, with a new clothing retailer arriving in Paris Street, Exeter. And what's more, this isn't any old shop. Lorna Ruby, which opened at the end of November, is a unique project selling oneoff designs to a growing number of excited customers.

Founded and run by Rupert Bevan, 31, and his partner Lorna Fairbrother, 23, Lorna Ruby's Paris Street enterprise offers sample garments from a carefully-created range of Danish and Dutch fashion brands. So how does it work? "We represent a few different Scandinavian and Dutch brands," said Rupert. "We sell their clothing to outlets across the South West. At the end of the selling season we are left with the sample garments, so opening up a shop in which to sell them seemed like a natural development. "There's only ever one of each sample so everything is unique. It's also heavily discounted because we sell all of the designs at wholesale price, which works out at about a third of the retail price. "Some of the clothes are pieces that haven't been in the shops yet as we sell ahead of time. We've got some Autumn 2012 stuff in at the moment, so there's also the chance for people to get ahead of the curve.
