Herbert Beaven, of Isleworth Road in St Thomas, and Thomas Batten, of Union Road, individually rescued two children who got into difficulties in the sea the year before.
Mr Beaven, 65, dived fully clothed off Starcross Pier after he spotted PC Wallace struggling to keep 11-year-old David Brown afloat in the water. The boy, of Longfield Estate in Starcross, was seen splashing about in the water off the pier steps as he struggled against the powerful tide.See the full content of this document
