A STUDENT is appealing for funds to buy toys for schoolchildren in the Maldives. Barnaby Row, 19, from Topsham, who is set to study architecture at university in the autumn, is currently on his gap year. He is soon heading out to a remote island off the Maldives to teach in a school and needs money to buy toys, as resources are scarce.

He said: "The island literally only has a post office and a food shop, the toys they have are very simple."
