EXETER councillor Vanessa Newcombe is launching a campaign to halt highway chiefs' revived plans for a controversial park and ride scheme. Devon County Council wants to put a 790-space park at the Ide Interchange, on part of the Alphin Brook Conservation Area. The scheme was thrown out by the county's development management committee in December last year -- but according to Cllr Newcombe, who represents Alphington, the same scheme is to be revived in the coming weeks.

Cllr Newcombe, who claims the scheme would do nothing to reduce traffic in Alphington Road, said: "They say they have now fully investigated other sites and there is nowhere else it can go, so are bringing this scheme back unchanged.
