INCIDENCES of bowel cancer are on the increase, and people are encouraged to visit their GP if they show any symptoms.

Bowel cancer affects men and women equally and was responsible for around 13,300 deaths in England in 2008. It accounts for 14 per cent of all cancers in men and 12 per cent in women. In 2007, there were 55 new cases per 100,000 men and 37 per 100,000 women.
